Treating Pregnant Women with Opioid or Stimulant Use Disorder
Course Description
Substance use, especially opioids and stimulants, continues to rise in the US, including among women of childbearing age. Pregnant women who use opioids and stimulants face many challenges to receiving appropriate care, including stigma, limited access to treatment, and fear of legal consequences. This on-demand course is designed to assist health care providers caring for pregnant and postpartum women to understand the characteristics of evidence-based practices to treat this vulnerable population. Candy Stockton, MD, reviews the science and best practices in treating pregnant women who use opioids, stimulants, or both.

At the conclusion of the on-demand course, participants will be able to:
- Explain two (2) ways in which MAT helps mothers with opioid use disorder and their babies.
- Propose three (3) research-based practices to treat pregnant women with opioid or stimulant use disorder.
- Identify three (3) barriers to care for pregnant women with opioid and/or stimulant use disorder.
- Specify three (3) signs of neonatal abstinence syndrome in opioid-exposed infants.
Instructions for Continuing Education Credits
How to receive a CE/CME certificate:
For Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners only, you will receive a link to complete the course evaluation for CME after watching the video for this course, and you will receive your CE certificate via email within six to eight weeks.

For other disciplines, you must pass the final test with a minimum of 80% correct. Once you pass the final test, you will be given links to complete a follow-up course evaluation. Choose the link that corresponds with the type of license you have. The link will take you to a course evaluation. Once you submit this required course evaluation, you will receive your CE or CME certificate via email within six to eight weeks.

The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (rn.ca.gov). Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation following this activity that may be used for license renewal.
Continuing medical education credit will be awarded within 6-8 weeks following completion of the on-demand course.

The training course meets the qualifications for the provision of one (1.0) continuing education credit/contact hour (CE/CEH). UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
UCLA ISAP is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs (Provider #64812). UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Course meets the qualifications for one (1.0) hour of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. UCLA ISAP is also an approved provider of continuing education for RADTs I/II, CADCs-CASs, CADCs I/II, CADCs-CSs, and LAADCs (CCAPP, #2N-21-339-1225), CATCs (ACCBC/CAADE, #CP40 872 C 0825), and CAODCs (CADTP, #151).
