Course Description

This on-demand course will begin with an overview of the NIATx model of process improvement, including the five key principles, the 10 steps to implement a rapid cycle performance improvement change project, and the five key change project planning and implementation tools. Examples of opioid-related rapid cycle changes projects and resources for continued learning will be provided. The session will conclude with a description of practical methods of data collection and adaptability within the clinical setting. Part 2 will begin with a discussion of why the use of data is critical to the implementation of process and performance improvement efforts within an agency. Participants will be provided a case-based opportunity to apply what they learned about the NIATx model of process improvement in the development of a rapid cycle change project to improve access to and quality of services for opioid use and/or stimulant use disorders.

At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:

  1. Specify the five (5) key principles of the NIATx model of process improvement.
  2. Compare and contrast the five (5) major tools for planning for and implementing a rapid cycle performance improvement project.
  3. Propose at least three (3) key steps to engaging stakeholders in metric selection and definition to develop a comprehensive data collection system.
  4. Design one (1) rapid cycle change project using the P-D-S-A process improvement tool.

How to receive a CE/CME certificate:

For Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners only, you will receive a link to complete the course evaluation for CME after watching the video for this course, and you will receive your CE certificate via email within six to eight weeks.

For other disciplines, you must pass the final test with a minimum of 80% correct. Once you pass the final test, you will be given links to complete a follow-up course evaluation. Once you submit this required course evaluation, you will receive your CE certificate via email within six to eight weeks.

The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (rn.ca.gov). The on-demand course meets the qualifications for the provision of two (2.0) continuing education credits/contact hours (CEs/CEHs). UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

UCLA ISAP is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs (Provider #64812). UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Course meets the qualifications for two (2.0) hours of continuing education credits for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. UCLA ISAP is also an approved provider of continuing education for RADTs I/II, CADCs-CASs, CADCs I/II, CADCs-CSs, and LAADCs (CCAPP, #2N-21-339-1225), CATCs (ACCBC/ CAADE, #CP40 872 C 0825), and CAODCs (CADTP, #151).
