Course Description
The purpose of this on-demand course is to provide participants with a detailed overview of medications that have been shown to be effective as a component of the treatment of opioid use disorder. Topics will include: the context for medication-assisted treatment (positive and negative perceptions), the epidemiology of opioid use and dependence (user demographics), a review of the various classes of opioids, an overview of each medication, its indication, to whom it is administered, and how it works, and treatment settings for medication-assisted treatment. Medications will include: naltrexone, methadone, and buprenorphine.

At the conclusion of the on-demand course, participants will be able to:
- Specify the three (3) medications to treat opioid use disorders.
- Identify at least three (3) benefits for using medication assisted treatment.
- Propose at least three (3) strategies to prevent opioid overdose.

The training course meets the qualifications for the provision of one-half (0.5) continuing medical education credit/contact hour (CME/CEH).

The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM (rn.ca.gov). Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation following this activity that may be used for license renewal.
Continuing medical education credit will be awarded within 6-8 weeks following completion of the on-demand course.
NOTE: Other types of CE credit (e.g., PSY, LMFT, LCSW, and alcohol and drug counselor) are NOT available for this on-demand course.
