Course Description

This two-hour on-demand course will focus on an overview of Indigenous psychology and will feature cultural-clinical approaches congruent with a Native way of knowing. Participants will learn what kind of attitude and mindset are essential to effective counseling in this population. Case stories will be presented to illustrate the concepts. All providers who are interested in increasing their skills to provide culturally responsive behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment to Tribal/Urban Indian people are encouraged to complete the course.

At the conclusion of the on-demand course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify two (2) tenets of Indigenous psychology.
  2. Distinguish two (2) ways that clinical training is disconnected with Native way of knowing.
  3. Recall two (2) attitudes that are effective in connecting with clients.
  4. Explain one (1) conceptual framework that is effective in bringing about optimal healing
    conditions for therapy.

How to receive a CE/CME certificate

For Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners only, you will receive a link to complete the course evaluation for CME after watching the video for this course, and you will receive your CE certificate via email within six to eight weeks.

For other disciplines, you must pass the final test with a minimum of 80% correct. Once you pass the final test, you will be given links to complete a follow-up course evaluation. Choose the link that corresponds with the type of license you have. The link will take you to a course evaluation. Once you submit this required course evaluation, you will receive your CE certificate via email within six to eight weeks.

The training course meets the qualifications for the provision of two (2) continuing medical education credits/contact hours (CMEs/CEHs).

UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) is accredited by the California Medical Association (CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) designates this learning course for a maximum of two (2.0) AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The California Board of Registered Nursing recognizes that Continuing Medical Education (CME) is acceptable for meeting RN continuing education requirements as long as the course is certified for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM (rn.ca.gov). Nurses will receive a Certificate of Participation following this activity that may be used for license renewal.

Continuing medical education credit will be awarded within 6-8 weeks following completion of the on-demand course.

The on-demand course meets the qualifications for the provision of two (2.0) continuing education credits/contact hours (CEs/CEHs). UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs (ISAP) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program and its content

UCLA ISAP is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and/or LEPs (Provider #64812). UCLA ISAP maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. Course meets the qualifications for two (2.0) hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. UCLA ISAP is also an approved provider of continuing education for RADTs I/II, CADCs-CASs, CADCs I/II, CADCs-CSs, and LAADCs (CCAPP, #2N-21-339-1225) , CATCs (ACCBC/CAADE, #CP40 872 C 0825), and CAODCs (CADTP, #151).
